Sunday Stills "HORSES"

My friend, Tammy, from Horsetrailriders.com has been following the Sunday Stills blog. I really like the shots that Tammy got this week for the Sunday Stills Horses challenge.

Each week, Ed, of Sunday Stills, issues a new photo challenge. I like that he says that it doesn’t matter what type of camera you have. Post your pictures and see the pictures that other people are sharing. Work on improving your own skills.

This year has been the beginning of a lot of journeys for me. I’m just as excited to begin my journey into horse photography. I had a camera as a kid and could only take pictures when I could save up enough money to buy film. Later, after college, I got a Yashica 35 mm and I learned to focus manually. Now, with the digital world, taking lots of pictures isn’t a problem. Editing the pictures

Ed thinks this week is a challenge, but to all of us who own and love horses, this is exciting. I decided to try a few different shots this week. I would like to learn to take better pictures. I have always loved taking pictures, but I really want to learn to take “unique” shots.

I’m starting these challenges by taking pictures of my stud, Grand Duke of Asset, “Duke”. In the shadows of an outside pen, I thought the close-ups of his face were interesting. He was in a quiet mood today, relaxed, and I loved how his face looked.

Come along on this journey with me!

I think your stallion is so handsome. I am glad you are wanting to take some pictures and start a horse photography journey. I have SO enjoyed my digital cameras and learning to take pictures, I'm always trying to focus on something random like my horse's eyelashes or hooves, lol! :)

Beautiful horse and nice shots. I was being scarcastic about the hard challenge bit. As you may have noticed, 90% of the contributors are horse ranchers...:-)
Welcome to Sunday Stills...Ed

Thanks, Pony Girl and CTG, I was admiring Duke so much on Saturday. I was so excisted to see that the Sunday Stills challenge was horses. I was going to take full body shots of Duke, who was looking all "studly" and shiny on Saturday. But I had moved him 1 lot closer to the mares, and he spent an evening running and whinnying at them. Because he was all sweaty, he laid down and rolled. What a mess. I guess I could have groomed him, but when I saw him in the shadows of the outside pen, I decided on some of these shadow shots. I will soon post some "groomed" full body shots of him!
PG - I know what you mean! I just did pics of some of my horse's forelocks! lol

Ed, thanks for the welcome! Yes, I figured you had a lot of horse people, as I looked at some of their websites to get ideas of what people are taking pics of. I'm hoping you can help me take unique pictures with the correct lighting! I'm excited to continue taking pics!

A OK, lol, get it? yes, he is QH, all 16 H of him! I have been debating with myself over the last 2 years on whether to geld him or not. I can ride him as a stud, but I feel like I can do so much more with him if he was gelded. We'll see! I sure do love his attitude and his movement!
