Signs of Spring

Last week, spring was popping up everywhere.  I can't believe the difference today.  Here are pics a week ago Sunday.  I'll post what it looks like now, in just a week!  I can't believe how many 70 and 80 degree days we are having.  We are blooming early!

We've been seeing Robins for a long time now.  I understand some may never leave the area over the winter, but I don't usually see Robins until mid-March, not in Jan and Feb!

More spring photos to come!

Geese are Flying

I have never seen so many geese fly at one time.

Today, geese were everywhere!  And they were circling!  At one time in the sky, some were flying southwest and some were flying northeast.  At one point, the ones flying west circled south and headed back east.

This was the sky that they were flying in.

The sky was so bright today, but the weather was deceiving.  It was windy and cold.

Some were flying east,

and some were flying west.

This was noon time, so I know they weren't looking for a place to land for the night.  Maybe it was just getting warm enough for them to start flying for the day.

On the other hand, it was a very windy day, so maybe that had something to do with their strange flying patterns today!

I was amazed that the geese were everywhere!

Robins on the Last Day of January

I have never seen as many robins as I did on the very last day of January!  They were everywhere.  Most of the birds were trying to drink water as the ice melted.

Can you find this camoflauged robin?

I love the colors of this speckled bird.

This robin better take advantage of the warmer day and sun.

Winter is coming back.

Nature’s Scavengers

What do you think of when you think of scavengers? Any wild animal in particular?

Rodents? Coyotes? What about Buzzards?

We usually see a lot of deer along side the road in the late fall during hunting season. I’ve seen a few “regular” birds at the deer. But not a whole flock! And definitely not a flock of buzzards!

Aren’t they ugly birds?

When we stopped the car close to them, they flew off to the trees, but stayed very close. When they circled in the air, they appeared as if they were calling to their friends to come help with clean up. Yuck.

Look at the wind span! Don't they look like claws?

I don't want to see them at night time!

March Snow

Can you believe this?

1st Day of Spring was Sunday!

Now, instead of buds, we have snow hanging on the limbs.

The snow sure is pretty!

But 4" is just too much, and temps in the 20's!

The snow just is hanging on the trees this morning. No wind.

And as I was taking these photos, it was very quiet and peaceful outside!

But... snow! I don't even think the robins can you believe this!

Heading to Colorado

I didn't post the day after getting home with the tractor, or the rest of this past week about the tractor. I don't know if it was jet lag, or the wine, but I felt miserable the following day. 2 days later, I still had a tiredness and soreness behind my eyes. Iwas better by Thursday but still tired. The weather had changed about every day this week, besides the traveling that we had done, and I think my head couldn't keep up with it. I finally took some Sudafed, and the ache went away.
The tractor got off the trailer, but it was too muddy to drive it around. I hope to have pictures up sometime in a week or 2. I may not have time this next week, as I'll be preparing a vendor booth for the Nebraska Horse Expo in Lincoln, March 11-13.
Yesterday, we drove another 7 1/4 hours to Colorado to visit Sara, Jake and Makenzie. We are bringing 2 year old Makenzie home with us on Monday and her mommy is coming Thursday. They are planning on helping me at Expo. Wish hubby and I luck with a 2 year old in the house again. It's only been about 22 years since our 3rd child was that age!
I wished we would have stopped and got better pictures of the Sand Hill Cranes. They were every where there was a pond in central Nebraska. Huge flocks!
